Rolling pins are full sized, 15" long with the ceramic hanging ring, and are made from the Harker molds for us by HotOven China. Back in the days before air conditioning, when home made fruit pie was the dessert served with almost every dinner, rolling out pastry was a challenge in a hot and humid kitchen. In the 1930's, Harker Pottery came up with this attractive solution- a hollow china rolling pin that could be filled with ice water, corked on the open end and used to chill and roll out the pastry.
These china rolling pins were made to coordinate with other china kitchen items (like china salad fork and spoons and china cake servers- to see our line of those, click here) , and in addition, the rolling pins were sometimes decorated with novelty decals or even crested with company logos and given away with that amazing new appliance, the electric icebox ( a.k.a. refrigerator).
Today, collectors eagerly collect those vintage china rolling pins in
all their variations, and they eagerly add our limited edition rolling pins as well. 
These
are available in patterns to match our popular Autumn Leaf, Red Poppy,
Silhouette, Orange Poppy, Blue Bouquet, Cattail, Gamebird, Sunporch, Mexicana
and Crocus patterns in addition to the Blue Currier & Ives and the Little Red
Riding Hood lines, as well as dozens of period appropriate vintage type
patterns. And we even made one by request of several collectors of
Princess Diana memorabilia.... although I am sure she never ate any pie, let
alone rolled out the pastry to make one!
